Fatima

This morning we had breakfast with Stella, Mr Tomas and family. It was great seeing them. Ed and Mr Tomas quickly caught up on news and then reminisced.

We parted ways for a while but have organised to meet for lunch later.
We head for the santuary to check out the new church and the kids want to see the tombs of the three children.

The church seats approximately ten thousand people. The main alter is the highlight and the fact that this is a multidenomination facility.
We head back into town and meet Stella, Louisa, Joanna and Saltino for lunch. Lots of chatting and catching up. We will keep in contact via facebook.
After lunch some site seeing. We stop to view footprints made by brontesaurus 175 million years ago. The prints were found by two guys searching for caves. Further excavation found over 1000 footprints from twenty different dinosaurs.
It is amazing to think about walking in the same spot as these monstrous creatures ( they were as high as a four storey building).

We search for the children's homes. Ed finds them and we are reminded how short the Portugese were at that time. I ask about Lucia's family as a relative was at her house the last time we visited. Teresa started talking to the lady and she pointed to Lucia's sisters house. We stopped and said hello. She is 94. Teresa chatted to her about her life. She let me take a couple of photos. She was lovely.

We had a short rest and then headed for Pedro's place. His mother and grandmother cooked cozido - cabbage, carrots, potatoes, pork, beef, and a variety of sausages all cooked together. The food was delicious and the company was warm and welcoming, making us all feel very at home.

  1. You appear to be eating very well indeed! I will be interested to know what the oreo dish was - a desert I assume but was it delish? It was good to hear you on the phone and listen to Mitchell's complaining - kids!

  4. Vicki food was delish - you would love the portugese hospitality.
The kids enjoyed the oreo dessert although they think it would make a great ice cream.
Mitchell can fit through the doorways for now but will be taller than the portugese of the past.
It has been good to hear Australian accents - missing being able to talk. I am lucky Ana, Teresa and to a lesser extent Joaquim and Jorge understand me.
