Last day - alas!

We had breakfast and headed out to Murtosa. We visited a museum that told the history of the river and local cannery. It was interesting seeing how they fished, smoked and canned eels.

We had morning tea in Murtosa and next headed to Estarreja.

We were seeking information about Ed's great, great, great grandparents. The lady was very helpful and has told him how to seek more infirmation. He now has a job for his next holiday.

Lunch was at home and again heaps of food. It is cold so we are all eating too much!

In the afternoon we went for a drive. Ed wanted some sardines and we took a look at the ocean in Furadouro - it was ferocious.

We headed out for dinner this evening. Mitchell was very happy as he was able to order his favourite portugese meal Porco Alentejana! We had lovely food and enjoyed seeing people Edward and Ana use to work with.

Pedro Lemos and Porto

Ed and I decided we wanted to hit Porto one last time before heading home. The kids opted for strolling streets near Rua Santa Catarina.

We had lunch at Pedro Lemos in Foz and decided to have their degustation lunch. They specialise in seafood and put a modern spin on portugese traditional cuisine.
Prawns with cauliflower foam.

Quail broth eaten in conjunction with Quail tart below.

Foie gras with pear and brioche. We had a glass of Madeira with this - delicious!
Tuna
Red mullet with caramelised beetroot.

Crayfish

Atlantic Crouper
Confit pigeon
Quejo and butternut pumpkin

Banana with lavender.

Coffee and Madelines

Met the kids back in Porto and walked along the river. We visited an old house where Henry the navigator lived that was customs house for many years. It was built over old Roman ruins from the 4th century B.C.

Sâo Jacinto

Ed and I went for a walk this morning in Furadouro. It was fresh but a pleasant walk. The ocean was very turulent today.

We went back home and picked up Joaquim, Teresa and Sabrina and headed for São Jacinto. We stopped off on the way to check out some old photos of Torreira.

We walked along a stone wall and watched some fishing boats return. The birds were very excited.

We then went for a walk near Joaquim's old workplace. We stopped here to enjoy some local seafood for lunch.

Coimbra day 2

Had a nice breakfast in a local coffee shop then went for a stroll. We enjoyed looking at the little shops. We went into the church and stayed for the final prayers. It is great to hear an entire congregation singing.

Next headed to Forum shopping centre for a last look for Brina's shoes and some lunch.
The view of Coimbra from Forum.

We next headed to Bucaco to have a bit of a walk and to check out the Palace.
