We start our day early - left home at 6.30am. We had to be down at the boat before 8.00am. We anticipated lots of peak hour traffic but there was nothing on the road. The Portugese do not do early!
We stop down near the river for a coffee. The lady serving was lovely she kept talking to me in portugese. She was determined to communicate no matter what.
We board the boat and have breakfast. Once finished we move upstairs for a premium view.
The landscape shifts and changes along the way. The highlight being the winery area near Regua and Pinhao.
There are three locks along the way. One of them is one of the tallest in Europe. It took twenty minutes for the lock to fill so we could continue up the river.
We enjoyed the cruise and the train trip back to Porto. Lunch was very nice with people having two or more serves of every course. We restrained ourselves. I am envious of the portugese they can eat heaps and are not obese.
The day is very tiring. We were all looking at the overnight boats - they look good. Maybe one day.
Take it easy from the Pereira's!

G'Day from Australia.
ReplyDeleteCatching up on a couple of days. The Pereira/Scott bike trip looks good. We will need a bigger trailer. I've seen the makeup case!
The lock looks huge. You must be in darkness when you first get in?
It must be great to be catching up with so many relatives and the new ones as well. Your mum and dad seem to be enjoying your visit. I bet they're glad you are visiting?
Sabrina, How many meringues did you eat, or at least how many grams.
Keep posting, Stay safe. Paul
Just for the record, there's no bikes in my idea of the Scott/Pereira European holiday!!
ReplyDeleteI am with you Kristy!
ReplyDeleteI am afraid I have some very sad news for you.
ReplyDeleteOn Thursday night 31.07.14 Amanda Swetha Joseph passed away in her sleep. If you remember she was an epileptic and she probably died of a seizure. We do not know the details.
I have just come back from the funeral and I was asked by Mrs Joseph to let you know as you had spoken to them about Singapore before your trip.
I was debating about telling you via email yesterday. Please pray for the family. Amanda was a committed Christian and she lived life to the full always looking after other people and not so much herself.
The service was beautiful and heartbreaking. It was held at Rouse Hill and a lot of her friends from her 2009 year attended.
Lots of love,
Rosalie
