We took a tour today visiting the Medieval town of Girona. It is surrounded by four rivers and has bridges in quite a few places making it a delightful little town. The city has a 2km wall left in tact from Roman times, however much of this area was built around 1100 - 1200. Girona is divided into two areas the Jewish quarter and the modern quarter. The jewish people either left the area or became Christians during Isabel and Ferdinand's reign. It was not safe being Jewish.
We walked around the town with a guide which was interesting. After orienting us to the town we went off and explored on our own. We visited a couple of museums and had lunch before boarding the bus to Figueres.
The Gothic Cathedral
If you climb the pole and kiss this sculpture it is said that you will return to Girona.
Next was our visit to the Dali Museum. We had two and a half hours to spend looking at Dali's work and some of his personal collection. The work was varied. I like him as a sculptor and a jeweller.
We are heading back to the apartment to get reading to leave for Madrid tomorrow.
The holiday is going way too quickly. We will have to return to Barcelona as there os much more to see.
I'm in for a return trip!!! When the Sagrada familia is finished. We'll be nudging 60 though - hope we stay healthy :)

ReplyDeleteWow wow wow...have loved your holiday blog; looks like you and the kids are having a ball and the weather is being good to you. Very cold here in the Hills right now (and windy). What a start to your holiday. Singapore and Barcelona looked amazing. We too were blown away on our trip with the architecture, history, art, culture and food. Only wish we had done a similar trip with our kids. Mitchell and Sabrina will have the travel bug for sure...hope you are "on budget" ! Thanks for sharing Kylie and Edward. Take care, Ruth
ReplyDeleteKristy will have to start a diet when I get home although getting heaps of walking. My feet are sore and only a beer or a wine and a bath will do at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteAna -yeah you are on! The flight was good and quick. Madrid is huge and we have already been lost. Will have to make more use of public transport.
Ruth - glad you are enjoying the blog. Budget you say, whats that! We wont be spending as much in Portugal so we are letting our hair down in Spain.
We will keep on blogging.
Kylie
