The family crashed early yesterday. We settled into the apartment then set off for phone cards and supplies. We went as far as El Corte Ingles and Placa Catalunya. Found a tourist office and booked two tours - Montserrat (today) and Figueres(Tuesday).
It was an early start today as we had to be at Placa Catalunya by 8.30(we were early). The tour began by visiting the Modernism suburb of Colonial Guell. The town was quaint but the highlight was Gaudi's church. On leaving Colonial Guell We headed for Montserrat. We caught a train to the town from below then went to to the basilica. The main choir are touring but we got to hear the apprentice boy choir. Sabrina and I headed for the funicular to St Joan and took our panini with us. The view was fantastic. Ed and Mitchell went to visit the black Madonna. Brina and I squeezed this in after our walk. We lit candles for everyone - I am a bit dangerous lighting them!
We headed back to the city where we strolled and window shopped.Kids thought the idea of a ham ice cream was funny(see pic below).Brina and I will return without Ed to really shop. We headed up Passeig de Gracia enjoying the Moderist architecture. Sabrina and I visited Casa Batllo. Gaudi was a genius. I would love to live in one of his buildings. Ed too is impressed with his engineering skills. Cannot wait to see Sagrada Familiar tomorrow!
Headed home after a frappe at McDonalds for a well earned rest. Dinner was at 9.30pm - some local tapas.
Tomorrow Ana arrives. We are all excited but Ed is about to burst.

Ola! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it ok! I loved the steps as you climb to see the Black Madonna - all mosaics of female Saints, either those monks were feminist supporters ahead of their time or ..... it was pure titalation for them! Ha!
Enjoy the Sagrada Familia - it's my favourite artwork :) xx
Sabrina and I also loved those steps. She was fascinated with the mosaics and enjoyed no prying eyes so it was a bit of a tactile experience.
ReplyDeleteSagrada Familiar it too is a favourite. Hopefully we will be healthy enough to return to see it finished.
We are enjoying Barcelona and hope on future trips to return. I love Gaudi and the other modernist architects. I love stained glass!!!!!!!
Give my love to George.xoxoxo
G'day to the Pereira family. Hope the kids find the penis lolly shop. The Sagrada should be a favourite. Such a great looking structure. I hope the weather is good. I hope the meals are more affordable in Spain. Have fun with your sister. Looking forward to more pics and stories. The ham cream looked much better than tapas.
ReplyDeletePaul have not found the penis lolly shop however we have found seeds that advertise penis capsicums and pussy fruit.
